Springhurst Hills Dentistry is proud to support the community of Louisville, KY. We love getting to know our patients, so we thought you might want to get to know us, too! We asked Dr. Tran some questions, since our new practice just opened.
What's the most inspiring thing that's happened in your dental studies & career?
The most inspiring person to me in my dental career and ultimately my change in outlook of life is due to the late Dr. Barry Wayne Ceridan. He was my clinic floor manager and he was very into personal development. He started a small group in our class and he introduced us to Success Principles by Jack Canfield. That completely changed the way I had been looking at things. To this day, I still remember Dr. Ceridan and the impact he had on me. I changed my views on what and how success is defined. I ultimately decided to open my office and my vision for this office is to have an atmosphere where my team enjoys coming to work and also have family time as well. Before I met Dr Ceridan, I would never believed in myself enough to follow my heart and dreams.
Who is your celebrity crush?
Describe your ideal vacation spot.
Anywhere that has a beach :) My family and I love the water.
Who was your childhood hero and why?
I never had a childhood hero. I always felt it was silly to want to be like someone I always grew up wanting to be my own unique self. There are people throughout my life who have influenced me, but I cannot pin one person who I truly looked up to.
What's your favorite meal and who cooks it?
My favorite meal is Pho, a Vietnamese noodle dish. My husband, Minh, makes it, and (surprisingly!) it is delicious!
What is your least favorite chore?
My least favorite chore is laundry. I will dry the clothes several times to avoid folding the laundry! :)
When did you decide you wanted to be a dentist?
Throughout undergrad I thought I was going to be a pharmacist. Then I had organic chemistry and realized quickly that I did not like it. The University of Louisville offered a pre-dental course that I took. I fell in love with dental because it was hands on and it felt like art. I was in between med school or dental and after taking the pre-dental course I knew dental was it. I've always known I would so something in the medical field, I just didn't know which path.
When and how did you decide to serve in the army? What made that experience unique?
I got my acceptance email from University of Louisville School of Dentistry and I was ecstatic! I did not think much about student debt/loans. My brother in law is in the Army and he was the one who pushed me into looking into the Army. So I did. I applied for their scholarship and was awarded a four year dental scholarship. The Army was quite an experience. I gained so much knowledge while serving. I always recommend that dental students to look into the military. I served from 2009-2013 and I have been stationed in Ft Rucker, AL and Ft Knox, KY.
What do you love the most about living in Louisville and how has it changed since your childhood?
I have to admit growing up I couldn't wait to leave Louisville. But I think most teens feel that way no matter which state they are in. As I've gotten older and now have a daughter of my own, I love Louisville. It's big enough but not too big. Louisville has a city feel but it's not overwhelming like New York City or Los Angeles. Louisville is also a great city to raise a family.
