It may have been a while since you reassessed your oral hygiene practices. After learning how to brush and floss your teeth as a kid, how often do people really think about whether they’re doing it correctly or not? We get it, there’s plenty else to think about in life! But why not take this moment to see if there’s anything you can be doing to better your dental care so you can better your smile. It’s never too late to make improvements to your oral health! Here are some tips to get you going:
Brush for Two Minutes
When we’re brushing our teeth, time can seem to pass much faster than it actually is. Next time you brush, put on a timer for two minutes. That’s how long you should be brushing each time to get a good clean. You may be surprised that it feels much longer than you’re used to!
Swap Out That Toothbrush
Many people don’t realize that you should be changing out your toothbrush, or toothbrush head if you use an electric toothbrush, every two or three months. This is about the time when the bristles started to get frayed, which means that they aren’t doing as an effective job at cleaning your teeth than before. Part of practicing good oral hygiene means using the right tools!
Use the Right Flossing Technique
If you’ve already made it a habit to floss at least once a day, that’s great. It’s an important part of dental care! The next step is making sure you’re using the right technique. Be gentle so you don’t damage your gums, and slightly curve the floss so that it gets all along the surface of each tooth (so curve it in both directions when between two teeth).
