Children’s Dentistry in Louisville
We love to see the smiling faces of children at our Louisville dental office. Positive dental experiences in childhood lead to better oral health care later in life. Happy, healthy smiles throughout adolescence can help improve a child’s confidence and self-esteem. Children’s dental needs change almost daily, especially during infancy. Teeth erupt, fall out, and permanent ones replace the primary teeth. All of these changes require special care to ensure that decay doesn’t set in and that all teeth come in properly. Our Louisville kids dentist Dr. Tran and her team are dedicated to giving all of our young patients the individualized care they need to have a lifetime of beautiful smiles.
Pediatric Dentistry Appointments
The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry recommends that children visit the dentist when their first tooth erupts, or by their first birthday. Seeing the dentist at this time allows our team to provide children with the early oral health care necessary to form a solid foundation for a lifetime of healthy smiles. When your child comes in for his or her first visit, the appointment will include:
- Pediatric Exam
- Necessary Digital X-rays
- Cleaning (if needed)
- Fluoride Treatment
- Proper Brushing & Flossing Techniques (for children who are old enough to brush)
Dr. Tran and our entire Springhurst Hills Dentistry team have a friendly, gentle manner. We enjoy interacting with our young patients and teaching them how to care for their smiles. To help you and your child fully understand everything we do – from exams and fluoride to fillings – we use kid-friendly language and are happy to address any questions or concerns you have.
Kid-Friendly Amenities
Kids often feel anxiety at the thought of going to the dentist. In order to help your children feel more comfortable and relaxed while they’re visiting us, Louisville dentist Dr. Tran designed a practice that is very kid-friendly.
- Books & Magazines
- Toys
- TVs with Cartoons in Treatment Rooms
- Treasure Chest with Prizes
Kids’ Dentistry FAQs
At what age should I bring my child to the dentist?
According to The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, you should follow the rule of firsts when it comes to your child’s initial dental visit. You should take your child to the dentist by their first birthday or when their first tooth comes in, whichever comes first. This gives Dr. Tran a chance to set a benchmark moving forward and see how their baby teeth are developing so far.
How many times should I bring my child to the dentist a year?
Both children and adults should visit the dentist twice a year. Biannual visits usually consist of a thorough examination, dental cleaning, and necessary X-rays. Oral health checkups also give our team a chance to catch any dental issues while they’re still small and easier/more cost effective to treat.
Is there dental insurance available for children?
Yes. Usually, this involves adding your child to your existing insurance plan. If you qualify, CHIP and Medicaid are also state-issued insurance options for low-income families. At Springhurst Hills Dentistry, we offer a variety of financial options to help you and your family get the care you need without breaking the bank. We accept most insurance providers as well!
